MJL designed and developed a bespoke website allowing users to search for their ideal workspace in the location of their choice. We supplemented this with a members-only portal with a message board, events calendar and business directory.

Cubo Work

Derby locals will remember Bar Soba based in the Old Post Office which closed last year. Cubo Work has opened its flagship location in this landmark city centre building and offers a variety of workspaces – from private serviced offices for enterprise companies to flexible hot-desks aimed at freelancers and sole-traders – with free beverages on tap and served by its on-site barista for all tenants.

A forward-thinking business requires a forward-thinking website

Cubo Work needed a website which makes it easy for users to find a relevant workspace, based on their location and number of staff. We integrated a custom property filter which lets users choose from each of Cubo’s current and upcoming locations, specify the number of employees, and the date that the space is required from. Filling out these filters then presents a list of available workspaces which meets the given criteria.

The challenges

In addition to ensuring each workspace’s availability is reflected accurately on the website, Cubo Work is rapidly expanding into new cities, such as Sheffield and Nottingham, so it was important for us to ensure that the client can easily add new locations to the website from a user-friendly dashboard. It’s for this reason that we opted into using the WordPress content management system, which ensures that it’ll take a matter of minutes for the client to keep the website up-to-date and evolving with the business as it moves forward.

We were careful to integrate WordPress where necessary, but weren’t afraid to get our hands dirty and build the search functionality and members’ login area from scratch, to have full control over how it works and avoid relying on heavy third-party plugins.

We also built a members-only web portal

On top of the front-facing website, which has the important job of selling Cubo Work to potential tenants, MJL was also tasked with building a web application to encourage tenants to engage and interact with each other in a private social capacity.

Users will be able to socialise with each other using dedicated message boards for each of Cubo’s locations, plus they’re free to peruse the internal calendar which lists all of the centres’ upcoming events; plus the business directory will encourage Cubo members to network and support each other when their services are able to complement each other’s.

We’re really pleased with both the core Cubo Work website in addition to the bespoke web portal which has been built specific to the company’s requirements; we’re excited to continue working alongside the team at Cubo Work moving forwards.
